Buy Pet First Aid Kits Online

There is only one thing that even comes close to the responsibility of bringing another human life into the world.  That is the totally awesome responsibility we assume, when we decide to bring a pet into our homes, our lives, and our hearts.  To our dogs, cats, ferrets, horses, birds, reptiles or whatever animal we choose, we are so much more than just a friend or playmate.  We are, for want of a better word…their Supreme Being.

We are totally responsible for everything in their lives: The condition and cleanliness of their homes, the quality of the air they breathe, whether they have food to eat, and water to drink.  In essence, whether they live or die!  Most of us are very aware of these responsibilities.  However we are also in control of, and responsible for, our animals basic health and safety.  One way to maintain that health and safety is with the purchase of a pet first aid kit.  A kit that contains all of the pet specific first aid materials and supplies, along with the basic knowledge of how they should be used.

First aid kits are not just a luxury, they are an absolute necessity.  Sometimes a life  changing or even a life saving necessity. They have become part of the very fabric of our lives.  We keep one in our homes and carry one in our boats and cars.  We take one along when hiking, biking, picnicking or doing any type of active outdoor sport or activity.  They are mandated by law in our offices, factories, and businesses.  But in spite of all that, most of us don’t have pet first aid kits especially designed and stocked for those four-legged family members.  In an emergency, you could probably get by with what you might find in your human first aid kit, but getting by is just not enough.  Pet first aid kits are specifically designed by veterinarians in co-operation with the ASPCA, the American Kennel Club, and other International animal organizations.  They are not very expensive to buy, especially compared to the lifetime of guilt and regret…because YOU were not prepared.  I know that most of us are not an adequate substitute for a licensed veterinarian, but in an emergency, or even when dealing with a minor situation, there is much we can do if we know how, and have the proper tools at our disposal.

If an animal is injured, remember that it is an injured animal, not a person.  You may need to muzzle your pet so as not to get bitten while giving first aid.  Never give your cat or dog “people medicine” like aspirin or acetominophen.

    Basic First Aid Tips

POISONING – If your pets skin or eyes have been exposed to a toxic product, quickly check the product label for instructions.  Wash your hands with soap and water before washing your pets skin or eyes.  Flush the toxin out and as soon as possible get help from a veterinarian.  If you pet has consumed the toxic substance, call a vet immediately.  Check if your pet is having seizures, having difficulty breathing, is unconscious or losing consciousness.  Be prepared with the following information for the vet:  species, breed, age, and sex of your pet – symptoms – name and description of the toxin, amount ingested, and length of exposure.

SEIZURES -  Try to keep them away from dangerous objects such as furniture, stairs, or moving vehicles. Time the seizures.  In most cases a seizure will last 2 to 3 minutes.  When you are sure the seizure has stopped, try to keep your pet warm and quiet.  Contact the veterinarian right away.

FRACTURES - Try to lay your pet on a flat surface for support.  Next, secure your animal on some type of stretcher when transporting your pet to the vet.  Be sure not to put pressure on the injured area or the pet’s chest.  If you can make a splint, proceed with caution, or just leave it to the professionals.

NOT BREATHING - Have another person call the vet if possible, while you are helping your pet.  Grasp your pet’s tongue  and pull it forward.  Check for foriegn objects lodged in the throat. Perform rescue breathing by holding the pets mouth closed, and breath with your mouth directly into it’s nose.
